For the community of Playas Gemelas in Mexico one such unforgettable chapter in our beach's history began in 2015 when Hurricane Patricia made landfall. It wasn't destruction and chaos that this hurricane brought to our shores, but rather a unique and enduring connection that would last until 2023. We affectionately named this unexpected visitor "Patricia," and she quickly became a cherished part of our coastal community

When Hurricane Patricia landed in 2015 it brought with it not only strong winds and rain but also a massive, picturesque log that had been uprooted by the powerful storm. As if by fate, this large log found its place on our beach, becoming a beacon of hope and safety amidst the hurricane's fury. We decided to name her Patricia after the storm that brought her to us.
Patricia wasn't just a piece of driftwood, she became a beloved member of our beach community. Over the years, she served as a multi-purpose symbol of strength and unity. Locals and tourists alike found solace in her sturdy presence and she quickly became an iconic landmark on Playas Gemelas.
Patricia was more than a log, she was our community's informal gathering place. Whether it was to share stories, plan adventures, or simply relax, she was always there, ready to lend an ear (or a wooden surface).

Eight remarkable years passed, but as we all know, change is a constant in nature. In 2023, Hurricane Lidia dislodged Patricia from her cherished spot on the beach, sending her closer to the crashing waves. Two weeks later, Hurricane Norma further pushed her out into the bay. As we watched Patricia float away, our hearts ached. We knew it was time to say goodbye to our dear friend.

Patricia's journey didn't end on our beach. As she ventured southward into the vast ocean, our thoughts and well-wishes followed her. The log, which had become more than just a piece of driftwood was now embarking on a new adventure.
